Freda Freiberg

18 Sepetmber, 1933 — 26 April, 2024

Tributes

Anita Frayman, Buchenwald Boys family member, September 2024

Freda was a special person, with a keen sense of history and her role in communicating her knowledge of the pivotal times through which she lived. Freda was the daughter of Mina and Leo Fink, who were instrumental in helping the Buchenwald Boys, a group of young Jewish concentration camp survivors, immigrate to and settle in Australia in 1948-49.

Freda knew the Boys from the time of their arrival, and she told many interesting stories of those early years. She regularly attended the annual Buchenwald Ball, commemorating and celebrating the liberation of the Buchenwald Boys. Together with her family, Freda supported ongoing education and research into Australian Jewish history, including that of the Buchenwald Boys. The families of the Buchenwald Boys are grateful to Freda for her continued encouragement and support.
